Welcome

Welcome to my new students at Loyola. If you're already here, you've probably found our syllabus on blackboard.

This is my first semester teaching at Loyola. I'm a grad student in theology at Notre Dame, and I taught there in the spring, but I live here in Chicago, so the commute sucked. I love teaching theology and I look forward to a great first semester at LUC.

The blog here is not for course announcements or essential material -- in fact, it's totally optional. It's just an informal place for us to share thoughts outside the classroom. One of my motivations for it is that a lot of times I come out of a class discussion and suddenly think of a new way of putting what I was trying to say or a new question on the topic, and I think, "Gee, I wish I'd thought of that in class!" This is a place where either I or you can post those latecomer thoughts and share or get a response.

I'd also like to write response papers of my own this semester. You guys will have response papers (they're free writing assignments) to reflect on our readings and discussions. I'd like to share some of your reflections, if you permit it, on the blog, and I plan to make my own responses and post them on here as well.

Feel free to comment. If you do it under your name, your comments will be part of your class participation grade. If you prefer to comment anonymously, that's great too (although I obviously can't count your comment towards your grade). If we get too much spam, I'll have to resort to comment moderation, but I hope we won't. If you want to make a post, just send me one in an email and I will "guest post" it with your name or anonymously just as you prefer.

Of course, you can subscribe to the RSS feed to catch all the posts.

Once again, welcome to my class and to the blog. Please feel free to email me with any questions.
